Niagara University Rugby Faces Challenging NCR Tournament Match Against University of Wisconsin-Platteville
In an exhilarating encounter at the NCR Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, on November 17, 2024, the Niagara University Rugby team, the Purple Eagles, faced a tough match against University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Despite a day of sunny weather ideal for rugby, the Purple Eagles did not emerge victorious, with the final score reading Niagara 29, University of Wisconsin-Platteville 55.
This intense match saw Emma Mcnab 27' and Faith Burtnick 28' as standout performers for Niagara. Emma Mcnab 27' crossed the try line twice, displaying remarkable skill and tenacity, while Jessica Yu 26' and Faith Burtnick 28' each added a try to the team’s tally. Burtnick 28' not only contributed tries but was also successful in two conversion kicks, showcasing her versatile playing skills throughout the game.
The match was further noted for its high spirit and commendable teamwork by the Purple Eagles. Key players such as Cindy French 28', Mya Teijeira 26', and Lauren Vanderwier 28' were recognized for their exceptional defense. Despite being at a numerical disadvantage in the second half with only 13 players on the field against a full squad from the Pioneers, Niagara demonstrated commendable perseverance and team cohesion.
