About Northwestern Rugby
Originally founded in the spring of 1972, the Northwestern University Men's Rugby Club is a Division II club in the newly formed WIIL Conference, as recognized by USA Rugby.
Northwestern Mens Rugby's main season is during the fall, where it competes against Illinois State, Western Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Loyola, and University of Chicago.
NU Rugby has been dominant in the Chicago area in the 2000's thus far, winning the Chicago Area League (CARFU) title's in 2007 and 2009. The 2011-'12 and '12-'13 seasons were viewed as rebuilding years, by Northwestern Rugby standards. Consisting of almost all freshmen and sophomore players, the team went 3-1-3 in the 2013 spring season, showing strong improvement. The squad, consisting of players with high level of prior experience in rugby to players who have never heard of rugby, welcomes all players to join if they are interested in pursuing an active and new sport at the collegiate level.
The team continues to build its reputation both on and off the field, hoping to recruit both new members and sponsors, in the upcoming season, with the ultimate goal of being able to compete in the Big Ten Division I League.
